Center Description

The KU Center for Hearing and Balance Disorders is located in Kansas City, Kansas (pop. 2,000,000) and serves as the University clinical center for a 300+ kilometer radius. The center provides comprehensive care of all hearing and balance problems. The Center is organized into a clinical division and a basic science division. The clinical division provides diverse services including cochlear implantation, implantable devises, a specialty center focusing on the treatment of tinnitus, comprehensive management of skull base tumors as well as treatment of common otologic diseases. Cochlear implant research includes a focus on implantation in the elderly, hearing preservation cochlear implantation and the effect of spiral ganglion population on cochlear implant outcomes. The basic science division (http://www.indkc.org/hearing_and_equilibrium.html) consists focuses on a diverse range of projects including improving auditory diagnostic testing, drug delivery to the inner ear, and central auditory plasticity.
